Q: How do I place a reserve on an item for a borrower?

A:

  1. Search for the item in Koha's intranet using the keyword or advanced search.
  2. Open the reserves screen by selecting “Reserves” for that item on the results page OR click on the title of the item and then select “Place Reserve”.
  3. Select a “Pickup” location using the drop-down menu.
  4. Scan the borrower number into the “Card Number” field OR use the “Quick Search” if you do not have the borrower number. You may search using borrower's first or last name in the “Quick Search” and then “Choose” the correct borrower. Koha will then fill in the “Card Number” field with the correct borrower number
  5. Choose “Place New Request” to complete your reservation.

IMPORTANT: You MUST choose "Place New Request" to complete your reservation.

IMPORTANT: "Update List" does not perform the same function as "Place New Request".

If an item already has a reservation list, the “Update List” button will be visible. This is only for updating a list after changing a rank or pickup location. It will not add a new patron to the reserve list.

Q: How can I check a borrower's place in the queue (rank) for an item they've previously reserved?

A:

  1. Pull up the borrower's account.
  2. Open the “Details” screen in the borrower's account. At the bottom of the “Details” screen, the patron's “Reserves” will be listed.
  3. Click the title of the item to open the reserve screen for that item. The reservation list will display along with the rank of each borrower in the queue.

TIP: Making Changes

Change rank or pickup location for a borrower on this screen, but be sure to finish by clicking “Update List”.

Q: How can a borrower reserve items themselves through Koha's OPAC?

A: Borrowers MUST have a password registered in Koha in order to reserve items or access their account online. A staff member must enter the original password into Koha. To do so:

  1. Pull up the borrower's account.
  2. Open the “Details” screen in the borrower's account. At the top of the “Details” screen, click on “Change Password”.
  3. Set the “New UserID” and “New Password” and click “Confirm Password.”

WARNING: You cannot verify a previously set password.

For security reasons, if you click on “Change Password”, you must change it. You cannot verify a previously set password.

IMPORTANT: Changing Passwords Online

If “OpacPasswordChange” is enabled in system preferences, borrowers may change their own password online by logging into their account and selecting “change my password”.
